What is KASNEB?

KASNEB is a professional examinations body established under the Accountants Act, No. 15 of 2008 and the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya Act, Cap 534 of 1988, with the mandate to develop syllabuses, conduct professional, diploma and technician examinations; certify candidates in accountancy, finance, credit, governance and management, information technology and related disciplines; promote its qualifications nationally, regionally and internationally and accredit relevant training institutions.

What are the qualifications for one to become a student of KASNEB?

Professional Examinations

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) aggregate average of at least C plus (C+) with a C+ in Mathematics and English or its equivalent.

Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with at least TWO principal passes provided that the applicant has credits in Mathematics and English at Kenya Certificate of Education (KCE) level or its equivalent.

KASNEB technician, diploma or professional examination certificate.

A degree from a recognised University.

Such other diplomas as may be approved by KASNEB.

Diploma Examinations

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an aggregate average of at least grade C- (C minus) or its equivalent.

Any other KASNEB technician or diploma examination certificate.

Such other certificates or diplomas as may be approved by KASNEB.

What are the fees charged by KASNEB?

The fees and related charges are available on the website under the examination services. They are also available on the reverse side on the application for registration form, examination entry/annual registration renewal form and the application for exemption form.

What are the dates for the examinations and the annual registration renewals?

Examinations are conducted in the English language and are held twice yearly in May and in November (see bulletin board for actual dates).

Annual registration renewals are due on 1st July of every year.

How can I get exempted in a particular paper?

Exemptions are granted on a paper by paper basis upon application with supporting documents and payment of requisite exemption fees.

How long does it take to get a certificate after successful completion of the examinations?

Within twelve (12) months of completion of the examination. Successful candidates are notified in writing when the certificates are ready for collection.

Can one send somebody else to collect a certificate for him/her?

In view of the sensitivity of certificates, candidates are required to collect their certificates in person. However, a certificate may be posted to a candidate on request through registered mail using the address provided by the candidate upon fulfilling the conditions specified in the letter advising candidates that certificates are ready for collection.

Does KASNEB issue copies of certificates?

KASNEB does not issue copies of certificates but provides a confirmation letter of the candidates examination history on request.

Under what conditions are refunds for withdrawals from an examination granted?

Voluntary withdrawal for requests made on or before the late examination entry date 50%.
Medical grounds for illness during examination dates  75%.
Death before sitting the examination 100%.

Within which time period should a request for change of examination centre be submitted?

Requests for change of examination centres should be submitted at least two months before the examination dates. However, special consideration may be given to late requests on a case by case basis.

What documents should candidates produce in the examination room?

Authority to sit the examination letter (timetable).
KASNEB student identification card.
National Identity card / Passport.
Birth certificate in special cases.
Which institutions offer training in KASNEB examinations?

Universities.
National polytechnics.
Government training institutions
Technical training colleges.
Private colleges.

KASNEB is mandated to accredit training institutions.The list of accredited institutions is available on the KASNEB website.

How can one obtain a list of the recommended text books?

The list of the recommended text books is available on the KASNEB website, KASNEB offices, training institutions offering KASNEB courses and Kenya National Library Service branches countrywide.

Can one pay fees through the KASNEB bank account?

Students are advised to pay fees through the KASNEB fee collection accounts in any branch of the following banks:

National Bank of Kenya Ltd. (NBK).  Account No. 01001031572601
Equity Bank Ltd.  Account No. 0170299238025
Kenya Post Office Savings Bank (Postbank) Account No. 0744130009246
Co-operative Bank of Kenya Ltd.  Account No. 01129128535900

Payment of fees by students based in Kenya should preferably be made to the above KASNEB Fee Collection Accounts in any branch of the above listed banks countrywide using the appropriate fee deposit slips. Students are required to complete the appropriate KASNEB forms and the relevant fee deposit slips (except for Postbank which does not use deposit slips). Upon payment of the requisite fees to the banks, a cash deposit receipt will be issued to the payee. The completed KASNEB forms should be left with the banks for onward transmission to KASNEB.

Students outside Kenya are advised to pay applicable fees in dollars at any branch of KCB in their countries to KASNEB KCB collection account number 1123096465, domiciled at Capital Hill Branch, Nairobi. Thereafter, students should submit their documents to KASNEB together with a copy of the bank deposit slip.

Is it possible for KASNEB to post the forms for registration, student identity card, registration renewal, examination entry and exemption to a student or a prospective student?

Yes on request. The forms are also available on the homepage of KASNEB website www.kasneb.or.ke. The forms are also available at any Kenya National Library Service branches countrywide and from all institutions that offer training in KASNEB examinations.

Is it possible to obtain examination results via sms?

Yes, candidates can access their results through SMS.

Is it possible to confirm results via email and KASNEB website?

Results may be accessed on the homepage of KASNEB website www.kasneb.or.ke.

KASNEB is currently working on mechanisms to enable candidates access results via email.

Can a student sit for KASNEB examinations outside Kenya?

Yes, a student can sit for KASNEB examinations anywhere outside Kenya.

Does KASNEB provide model answers for examination questions to students?

KASNEB provides feedback on examination questions in the KASNEB Newsline journal.
KASNEB is working on modalities to enable students obtain model answers to examination questions.

How long does a student identification card take to be processed?

Two months from the date of registration.

What are KASNEB operating hours?

Weekdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

What is credit retention?

The credit retention system allows a candidate who attempts papers in a level or section and passes some of the paper(s) in the level or section to retain as credit(s) the paper(s) passed. A candidate is therefore required to sit for the failed paper(s) only. However, a candidate must pass the failed paper(s) in a level or section within the next two and a half years or five consecutive sittings. Otherwise, the credits will be withdrawn and the candidate required to resit all the papers in the level or section.

Where is KASNEB located and does it have branches?

KASNEB is located at KASNEB TOWERS, Hospital Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi. KASNEB services is now available at the following Huduma Centres; Nairobi GPO,Nairobi Kibera, Nairobi Makadara, Kisumu, Kisii, Eldoret, Meru, Nyeri and Mombasa. However, students may obtain the relevant forms and other information from the KASNEB website, KASNEB offices, training institutions offering KASNEB courses and Kenya National Library Service branches countrywide.

  1. Message: Am in my 1st year doing Bachelor of commerce and I just registered For CPA and paid for part 1:(section 1 & 2). exams for November2017.my question is when and how do I get my registration number, when and how do I get student ID card and all the other documents?
